Haha Its funny you ask! I am flying to Tampa tomorrow and will be in Orlando on Sunday for my Niece´s christening. Despite what you see on the weather channel, the weather here is absolutely heavenly. You see 116 high, but that is at 3 o'clock. The heat is a dry heat so it is much different than Florida. I hear it is pretty miserable in August, but my God, the rest of the year is awesome!

To be totally honest, all of the message forums I belong to are no more active than this one, maybe one or two that are local car forums, but even then, sometimes I will log on and there will be NO new posts... I'm also on a gay car guys site,, same deal, roughly the same amount of "new posts" as this site, same with turboford, and my other car sites....

It seems like forums in general are just not as revered as they were a decade ago. Shame because I still like them, but Earl is right things like facebook and twitter seem to interest more ppl, and then they dont bother to come here.

I would really say THIS forum is dead, it's dead compared to 2001... but its about as alive as the other forums I am on..

Agreed. I'd say there are maybe 7-10 people who post regularly (as in at least once a week or so), another 200 or so who have registered but never post. The rest are all spam and webcrawler accounts. That's probably about average.

Hey Guys! I haven't posted for a while. I guess I just drifted away, but it happens. I'd love to hang out once again. I wonder how everyone's doing? Vince, if you're still here, let me know. I'm still in Baltimore. Had kidney cancer diagnosis just after he and I met but I'm cancer-free and doing great.

Cultural attitudes have changed a lot in recent years (at least in my mid-western experience). People are aware of the "old stereotypes", however, as a whole society (gay and straight) has grown past Will and Grace era typecasting where homosexuality was often associated with specific mutually exclusive personality traits. The term "straightacting" itself is more of a throwback to those times past, if you will, and has less impact/meaning now. Continued basis of the site on that term is likely a primary factor. Particularly with regard to the younger crowd, individuals may be having trouble coming out but unlikely to subscribe to the "old gay stereotypes" to begin with. Those that are already out (and many str8s) are apt find the term moderately offensive, albeit for different reasons than 10+ years ago. The site might consider relegating the term straightacting to a footnote rather than it's premise for existance. Refocus language geared to distinguish masculine men who like men and all that entails. A catchy URL that doesn't get blocked as "just another porn site" could be tricky, however.

Redesigning site layout without taking into account these concerns I suspect wouldn't make a huge difference in traffic, not what is needed, anyway. or go xxx. There's no shortage of Raging Stallion-esq porn on the net these days (again, telling). Any foray into xxx would require a concerted effort.

I think a lot of broad-based forums are suffering from Facebook-itis. And in this board's case, the culture has shifted so radically in the last five years or so--same sex marriage being legal in 1/4 of the U.S. and increasingly world wide, fall of portions of DOMA, the death of Don't-Ask-Don't-Tell--that maybe it's possible that this forum is a relic and, sadly, no longer needed. There are but a few of us left, at least posting. (There are more lurkers, but...)

Maybe a way to update this site is by creating an app for it where you can post but also create a personals profile.

The old straightacting.com site had so much stuff in it besides the Butch Board. There was a personals section, members could submit their names and photos to compete in the SA.com model of the month and from there choose the model of the year, you could rate guys, cars, and pets using the SA.com rating system of 1 - 10 with 1 being most masculine to 10 for most feminine (I always thought it should be the other way around.)

Maybe this is the only way, we can prevent the Butch Board from disappearing. This place was a big help to me during my coming out process 10 years ago. The guys here really helped me out and they were the first gay friends that I made. I can't help but think that we can still be a help to lots of guys out there.

And this place has a soft spot in my heart too. But I've noticed on other sites that there is a backlash against the term "straight acting." Was this always the case? Did SA ever have problems with that moniker?

Gents,
(a) I'm glad to see that this site is still up & running, (b) that I was able to remember my password ~ allbeit after several unsuccessful attempts and (c) now that I've found the site again, YES - I'd like to see this site revived - if it was in fact dormant... My first post back.....hope all are well.

Hi guys,

It's been awhile since I was here last and to be honest arrived tonight by clicking the wrong button....but pleased I did!

I was never a very prolific poster (as you can see)....but that's the case at any message board I've been a member of. I guess I've always more a lurker than someone who's got involved in the conversations. Lurker or not it was nice to know that there were other 'non-stereotypical gay men' than me. It took a long time to come out as I just wasn't sure I was gay, lol.

Anyway back on to the point. I have to admit I'm pleased it's still going and hope it manages to get back some of it's former glory. But I have to admit I'm not sure how that's going to happen.

Are you still thinking of revamping? I do think it need something!!

Good luck with whatever you decide....I just hope we manage another 10+ years :)

Well, I've been on other gay message boards lately, and honestly. I haven't found anyone 1/2 as cool as this place was, back in the day. I really miss this place. I'm not into face book so I won't go there, but I hope this place comes back to life. I really enjoyed my time here.

Nimby, Paul ~
Well said ~ Couldn't agree with you more! So, any recommendations as to how to revive the site? I've seen posts about facebook and apps for iphones ~ all well and good, but being a self-proclaimed Luddite, I feel comfortable with this site; its ease of access, the ability to comment on a range of topics....but most importantly its simplicity.... Haven't got a clue how to revive it or get more members to join....Perhaps a renewed publicity campaign on the other social media sites?????? In the good old days I'd have just signed a petition, but nowadays......who knows... :?

Sure, this site is worth keeping and reviving. Good, intelligent and mostly respectful discussions here.

If we felt the title "straightacting" was no longer relevant or was outdated or was misunderstood or disliked or divisive, then just change the name. You can always redirect the traffic to the new site. Anyone who types in straightacting.com can be automatically directed to the newly named site. And you could keep the content of straightacting.com up so it would still come up in the search engines, but again, it would redirect folks to the new site.

Facebook and Twitter seem to be it now. Facebook is for talking to people you know but don't like. Twitter is for talking to people you like but don't know. :P

Well Said! I'm not on Facebook & wouldn't have a clue on how to "tweet" - or whatever the term is...Simplicity is the ultimate sophistication...
