Success!!!

Postby furface » Sat Jul 04, 2009 3:24 am

Just after 2200 03JUL09 the techs at the hosting ISP sent me an email letting me know they were ready to do their thing. The old board was disabled, the software upgraded, and the database converted - and it all worked

I notified Tom-SA and he set up the appropriate redirects from the old board. Ya might want to edit your bookmark anyway.

All y'all should have noticed the newly updated board. Poke around and see how it feels. The basics are the same as the old version, though there are s'igifcant changes under the hood. There are still changes to be made in tweakin' things and some additions, but nothin' that'll have a major effect on the board's use by y'all.

So poke 'round and if'n ya gots any questions - just ask. And remember there's no such a thing as a stupid question.

Thanks for your patience during this l'il s'periment.

All these changes bring to mind the history of this website over time. So, thanks to the Internet Archive's Wayback Machine, you can see what StraightActing.com looked liked in years past. Would be great ti bring it back to that level again.

Slick. Easy to use. Not as glitchy. I like it.

Thanks Lou!

Before anyone gets alarmed about their post count going down; there's a valid reason.

One of the things I've done is resync the post count with the database. Y'all remember the 'incident' back in Decenber 08 when many posts got dropped? Well the proggy wasn't set up to recalculate the individual post counts. This new version allows that to be done with a simple click. And that's what I did earlier today.

So - the count now reflects the number of posts attached to your username.

I'd complain, but frankly it leveled the playing field on the post-whore thread.

Things are looking great Lou.

And thanks for the blast from the past Carlos. The one you have marked as "Beta" in 2004 was the unfortunate server crash when we lost most everything. Wow, this site was way cool back in the early 2000's!! :D

Hey Lou and Tom, the new board looks great! Thank you for all your hard work. I do have one question. My post number seems low at 143 counting from Oct 2004. Not a big deal but perhaps you could shed some light on that. Thanks!

Oh, well. Guess I'm back to 'newbie' status as I'm now down to 100 or so (almost, but not quite, virgin again!!!). Small price to pay for the new and improved functions, no spam posts, etc.
