The USA vs Japan women's curling match was on this evening ~ I don't think I've ever seen an entire curling match and am not sure I'd consider it a sport...

According to the Washington Post, "Japan rallied back from an early three-point deficit to spoil the Olympic opener of U.S. skip Debbie McCormick's team, beating the Americans 9-7 in a dramatic finish that brought out an official measurement."

I think appreciate the physics of the game, but I didn't see anything remotely "dramatic" about the finish or anything else about the match...Perhaps I'm missing something.......

There seems to be a lot of athletes in the Olympics who have switched countries because they couldn't get into their own country's team or for other reasons.

--A French men's figure skater (Samuel Contesti) becomes an Italian citizen and is skating for Italy because the French didn't put him on the team.

--A female Japanese pairs' skater (Yuko Kavaguti) became a citizen of Russia (her skating partner is Russian) because Japan doesn't have a pairs skating program. Viewed by the Japanese as a traitor.

--Canadian Begg-Smith representing Australia (see posts below).


All these athletes trying to accomplish their Olympic dreams in any way possible.

Many hockey fans from my hometown in Pittsburgh (including me) are chearing for Team Candada in hockey because of the players...namely Sidney Crosby, captain of the Pittsburgh Penguins. During the hockey season he lives with the Lemieux family in Sewickley, Pennsylvania. Mario Lemieux....another Pittsburgh/Canadian legend. Go Team Canada!

So Canada did lose?? I didn't watch any of it.. if there would have been a snowmobile supercross [called snowcross] event i'd have been into that.

Actually, I was cheering for Canada. I wanted for them to win a gold on Canadian soil. This was very meaningful for the country.

There have been times when I was cheering for an underdog rather than the U.S team. Sometimes the American team can be quite arrogant and that turns me off.

Like on the semi-finals for the Men's Cross-skiing, I was cheering for the Jamaican guy because he needed it more than the Germans, Austrians, and Norwegians.

So, I've been cheering for the Canadians in a number of cases.

Andrew Koenig, son of actor Walter Koenig from Star Trek, and co-star of the show Growing Pains where he played the role of Boner, seems to be missing in Vancouver, BC.

Vancouver, BC, Canada (CNS) - Character actor Andrew Koenig, son of "Star Trek" star Walter Koenig, has gone missing. His family and friends are asking for the public's help in trying to locate the 41-year-old actor, who is said to be suffering from depression.

Andrew was last seen by his friends on February 14 in Vancouver after staying with friend Jenny Magenta. He was supposed to fly back to Los Angeles on the 16th, but he never took the flight.

According to investigation, he was last seen at a bakery in the Stanley Park area of Vancouver.

His father has dedicated his website to finding his son. The family has contacted with detectives to help determine his whereabouts.

Walter said he received a letter from his son on February 16, causing him to grow concern because of its despondent tone. He believes that Andrew's disappearance was not prompted by any specific incident and that drugs were not an issue.

He said, "I think it's something that has been a part of his makeup for a long time. There's no single trauma. There's no episode. There's nothing of that nature."

Andrew was known for his recurring role as Boner in the '80s sitcom "Growing Pains." He was working as a camera operator on the show "Never Not Funny" as well as doing improv comedy in Los Angeles.

Canada did good against the Germans...8 - 2. What a game that was!!

Canada is going on strong. They beat the Russians 7 - 3 and are not in the semi-finals along with the U.S. Four more countries are battling for two remaining semi-final spots.

Can you imagine what it would be like to see a Canada - USA re-match in the gold medal round?

Congratulations Canada!! They won the gold medal in hockey on overtime against the USA.

A real good fight. This is the medal that meant the most to them. Canadians are going to get laid today.

Though Canada has 26 medals to the US' 37. Canada has the most gold medals at 14 to Germany's 10 and the US' 9.

I'll miss the ice hockey the most. It was the best Olympics ever for hockey. My consolotion is that I'll have the remainder of the NHL season to enjoy my hero and my home team's captain play.

Yes, the 2010 Paralympics begin on March 12 in Vancouver.

If you thought, racing down a slope like Bode Miller was amazing, try doing it with one leg!! Ever played hockey on a wheelchair? Now, those are athletes!!

I am assuming there will be televised events in Canada, but it is doubtful there will be anything televised in the U.S. As far as the American media is concerned, the Olympics is over.

Now I've always had such high admiration and respect for all our olympians. The shear dedication and years of hard work is so impressive. But those qualities take on and entire different meaning during the Paralympics. I am in absolute awe!!! I watch amputees, blind, deaf and otherwise disabled people achieve things I, an, "able-bodied" person can only dream about. Sometimes I feel shameful for what I take for granted. The sniffles, allergies or a headache can keep me in bed. But that's why they are Olympians and I 'm just a Joe schmo.

So starting next Friday, I'll be indisposed for a while again. I'll just me with my butt parked on the couch again, with a big bowl of popcorn and a box of kleenex for those very special moments when I am privileged enough to watch someone's deepest dreams come true.
