Your Worst Purchase?

Postby Guinness Fan » Fri May 25, 2012 6:36 pm

We've all blown money on stuff that we don't need...

What's the most useless thing(s) you've purchased?

Me; I bought 3 "vintage", circa late 1950's TV sets, simply because I liked the "vintage" look of them... Talk about a complete waste of $20.00.. None of them worked and all of them ended up in the trash.

And your worst purchase?

Well, there's that scoreboard in the garage... it works, though...

Those TVs weren't Philco Predictas*, were they? Even non-functional they can command a decent price for parts.

*Philco Predictas were the TVS with the casing around the CRT, and the rest of the technical jiggery-pokery was in a separate cabinet.

$20.00 constitutes your worst purchase? Really? Add a few decimal places to that and you come close to what I spent on my honeymoon (which I don't regret at all, by the way).

A large, 14 ft chestnut tree marginally suited to our climate. It lasted 2 years. $1100 down the drain. This year I am buying a large, 16 ft Linden tree to replace the chestnut. I made sure that Lindens grow here :D

Has to be some stock and/or mutual funds that were sold to me many years ago by a friend/broker. Can't blame it all on him. I was an absentee owner. I neglected it. For me it was like playing "Let it Ride" in the casino. I managed to turn about $8,000 into $500 over a period of 10 years. Cashed it in last month. Good riddance.

I was kinda disappointed I went back to Las Vegas a second time. I took my brother and wanted to impress him, but it just seemed boring the second time around. The first time was amazing, though. And I only had three days, so I thought a second trip was in order. The hotel I liked was being renovated, which kinda pissed me off. They don't advertise bad news like that.

But we did see the Grand Canyon, so it wasn't a total dead loss. :?
