Are all hairdressers fem boys? Are all construction workers macho? Explore stereotypes on these and other issues here.

Keep your mother outta my yard, and I'll keep my "yard" outta . . . .

When I was driving once, I saw this painted on a bridge: "I don't want the world. I just want your half."

LOL The first guy was great! He didn't give a crap who the hell was watching him, he was just having a good time.

The asian gentleman in the second clip was a very good dancer. I don't know if he was gay or not though because that could be a cultural thing.

The Turkish belly dancer is also very skilled He has a really long torso!

Stereotypes supporting stereotypes

Postby Learning » Fri Mar 27, 2009 4:26 pm

In answer to the question that started this thread, the stereotypical effeminate gay style encourages people to notice things that confirm the stereotype. Stereotypes also encourage people to overlook gay men who act strong and manly. This pattern is called confirmation bias.

Another pattern is that expectations encourage people to act in ways that fit the expectation. This is called self-fulfilling prophecy.

Steretypes of gays as effeminate make gays seem less threatening and interfere with the ability of gays to exercise power. A gay power movement would recognize that "straight-acting" style really has nothing to do with sex or sexual orienation. To be "straight-acting" means to exercise or display power.

Homosexuality Is Not Effeminacy. It's attraction.

Postby Learning » Sun May 03, 2009 11:45 am

Here is a great video making the point that "homosexuality is not effeminacy." The video also suggests that homophobes promote stereotypes of effeminacy to deny that men can be attracted to men.

Interesting video. I noticed that it ended with a clip from Oz.

There was also a picture of two models from the porn site Corbin Fisher. Most of the guys on that site are the college aged jock types, and for the most part come across as naturally masculine.

Gay Tastes v. Demands of Stereotypes

Postby Learning » Thu May 21, 2009 6:25 pm

Good point, it's hard to deny that "straight acting" guys have sex with other guys when the evidence is in the videos.

The interest of gay men in seeing "straight acting" guys in videos says something about gay mens' tastes. But effeminate portrayals of gay men in the media in general reflects common stereotypes.

It's nice to know that not everyone buys into the stereotypes, not everyone is willing to play the stereotypical submissive part, and not everyone is eager to give his power away.

Every gay (or "queen" as every gay likes to be called) that I see seems to have forgotten the drag, meaning the gay isn't wearing "her" dress. Now, if this is such a common phenomenon amongst gays, then, why are you queens being so defensive by lying in saying that you don't engage in such effeminate mannerisms? You wouldn't be gay if you didn't. You are acting as if you are ashamed that you are a little bit girly. See http://straightacting.net/phpbb/viewtopic.php?t=5453. I think somebody needs to attend a gay pride parade. Exhibiting flamboyant femininity is nothing to be ashamed of, my gay queens. That's what being gay is all about. After all, aren't gays acting gay by dressing in drag and behaving in such a feminine manner? To all my gays everywhere, let that imprisoned screaming bitchy diva queen out and let her become you. Let her wash herself over you. Without "her", u wouldn't have become the fabulous gay that u are today.

Desperate, don't know you, never met you - but seriously
man, you're just pathetic and pretty transparent.

You're going to die one day and few to no one will
give a sh*t because deep down inside you're fundamentally
loathsome and empty. The only thing you understand is discord
and pain and it's all you'll truly ever have in life. So you feed off of
all these juvenile fires like some prepubescent child, thinking maybe -just maybe
you'll quench some ineffable thirst.

The sky will still be blue,
the earth will still turn, birds will continue to sing... and you'll
be dead...

In the end you're
just pushing up daisies like every other piece of sh*t in history.

If you look at it soberly: You are absolutely NOTHING and beyond all
those "desperate-ly" applied, contrast-
adorned delusions of grandiosity and self-worth you
know it.

So go ahead and keep trying to dab on all that mascara on the guys here...
Anyone with a modicum of discernment sees through you. I just happened
to possess the energy to let you know this fine morning.

mm, coffee time. lol
