lesbians more accepted than gays?

Postby nimby » Sat Jun 14, 2008 4:36 pm

I'm just comming to a sad realization. I'm trying to understand why lesbians are more accepted in society than gays. Both guys and girls agree that two chicks getting it on is sexy, but two guys, no way. I don't get it. Double standard? Someone enlighten me, please? :?

Don't blame me, I think men getting it on with each other is much, much hotter.

It really boils down to how straight men feel about it. They find lesbian sex hot and man-sex revolting.

Yes lesbians are more accepted than gays. I don't understand why but I suppose there is some reason as to why it's that way. I guess more people find woman attractive so when two woman are together it's double the pleasure. I almost think it's just something against men. So many people view sexiness as being something onlywoman can offer. I think society has something against the natural beauty of a man. For some reason they don't think of men as beautiful.

I agree with you dezotti. But to add to this, on a deeper level it's a bit of insecurity on a straight mans part. I believe it bothers him on a deeper level because he may not feel comfortable with his own understanding and feelings of why he may at times find another guy attactive even if its only on a visual level having nothing to do with sexual attraction.

Not only is that right but they also do not like it when a butch is with a femme. It seems that if it fits into their fantasy or mimics porn then it is cool but once it steps outside those boundaries they have a problem with it.

I didn't hear that one. They pretty much moved on from it. Although I think the best one was a Staff Sergeant telling a PFC that he was "f**ked up as a football bat."

And why is it that almost every chick in the Marine Corps is assumed to be lesbian? I think of all the women I knew in the Corps, only two were bi and none were full blown lesbians. I knew more gay guys...hahaha.

Did you see the TV coverage about same sex marriage in California? They show female couples kissing but never show two men kissing.

Straight men - bless 'em - are the ones who, how to put this delicately? They want a particular sexual favor, but one of their vilest vulgarisms refers to one who grants that favor. That's supposed to be normal thinking.

I think that lesbians (at least in North America) do find a bit more acceptance than the rest of us. But I think that it's because men have more constraints on what is gender appropriate behaviour. It's also more acceptable to beat up a man than it is to beat up a woman.

Although it's really important to note that even though here in Canada and the U.S. Lesbians are a bit more accepted than Gay men that they still get assulted and killed and harresed.

And in countaries like Jamaica or parts of Southern Italy lesbians are killed and beaten and gang raped and suffer in the same way and with same frequency as gay men in those places.

It doesn't help our cause when men get caught trolling for gay sex in public restrooms.

It's true, but the toleration of heterosexuality was not in question during R Kelly's trial.

The reason lesbians are more accepted than gay men is because in a male dominated society women are considered less of a threat.

A woman being a lesbian is just one less fish in the sea or a "challenge" for a straight man. But a guy being gay is threatening because you share the same locker rooms, and bathrooms privately and because of guilt by association publicly.

Also because lesbians are stereotypically viewed as trying to be more manly, they move UP in status, while gay guys are viewed as trying to be more womanly and move DOWN in status.

The morning new show on the WB has this stock footage they show every time there's a gay themed story. It's of two guys kissing, but one's in a wedding dress.

Why do the tall ones always want to be drag queens?

True that. . . . But you know, if there were public places where women went to change their bras, do you really think straight guys wouldn't "troll" there?

I'm not sure I buy into the idea that lesbians are more accepted than gay men. After Ellen went off the air in the mid 90s, a poll showed that gay men outnumbered lesbians on television by a four to one margin. Gay men also outnumber women on the cover of gay magazines such as The Advocate, Out and Genre. That doesn't mean that gay men kissing is more accepted than two hot women kissing, but that's not an example of lesbians kissing. (Let's face it, and I hate to be stereotypical here, but with real lesbians kissing there'd be more flannel and body fat flying.)

Two hot women kissing: most acceptable
Two hot men kissing: rare but moderately acceptable
Two typical lesbians kissing: doesn't happen at all

Well, if your straight friends ever bring up hot lesbian sex...show 'em some bull-dyke porn. That might change their opinion.

I wonder where a person would buy bulldyke porn. If I had lesbian friends, I'd ask them. But there aren't a lot of out lesbians (or out gays for that matter) in the part of the country where I live.

Yes, I imagine men would be turned off if they saw most real lesbians going at it.

There are indeed more representations of gay men on television, but pretty much every one of them is a stereotypical lisping queen.

And GLAAD et al. falls all over itself giving awards to that garbage. I'm wondering how the NAACP would react to a show called "N****r Eye for the White Bitch."

The reason there are more gay men in the media is because it is more interesting to watch a Sissy than a Tomboy. Lesbians don't have shock value in a male dominated society because they are female. So it's less of a deal, easier to accept and not remarkable enough to boost ratings.
