Paz, I'm guessing you watch cable, where Bravo, MTV, TLC, and all those women's channels present gay men entirely as stereotypes. Where gay men are predominant and have, of late, been presented in less stereotypical ways is on network television, which has a record number of gays this year (with conservative Fox having the highest at 5 and "liberal" CBS having the lowest at ZERO).

THAT'S a group I'd donate to.

Most of that gay programming is low grade porn and nelly stereotyping.

True, we don't watch a lot of network TV. I think Smallville is the only thing we catch regularly on an airwave network. We watch The Shield on FX, too, but apart from that it's mostly news networks and stuff that looks interesting on History, NatGeo, and the like. Oh, and a shitload of DVDs. . . . We don't watch a lot of Bravo, apart from Kathy Griffin specials (Don't want our gay cards taken away.), but yeah, I have gotten the impression that Bravo is "Queen City." And I know when we catch "The Soup" and such, every gay clip we see is lisping, screaming GAAAAAAAY! So that's where I've formed my impressions.

It's cool to hear that the airwave networks are ditching the stereotypical crap. (I was never much of a "Will and Grace" fan.) I hope it's a trend.

As far as "conservative" FOX goes -- I really think that FOX News is the way it is largely because there's that particular market niche out there, and before FOX nobody catered to it. Murdoch is in business to make money, period. FX has some of the most adult programming on basic cable, programming many people like, and you NEVER see a person on FOX news complaining about the nudity and language on that FOX-owned network.

I agree with most of what has been said here. I've overheard a cracker of a conversation between guys in a locker room - about how devastating it would be if a guy's son tells him that he's gay. Then they went on to talk about how it wouldnt be as bad if it was a daughter who had a lesbian, but as long as her girlfriend was pretty and not one of those butch things!

In other words, they find two pretty lesbians getting it on titilating!

Think of some of the songs released in previous years - "All the things she said" and "Kissed a girl" are two examples I can think of. Would they be brave enough to release a track (with a similar video) about two gay school boys? Would they be brave enough to release a track about a guy experimenting with kissing a guy and noticing the taste of his chewing gum?

I've had it explained it to me this way...

"Women in our society are not taken as seriously as the men are, so therefore it doesn't matter as much what they do."

And my response was...(tongue in cheek...)

Whew!!! What a relief. Now I get it. It's all a big joke. All the Sara Palins, Golda Miers, Margaret Thatchers, all a big joke.

I doubt anyone would. Even if they did I highly doubt it would be received well. It probably spark some controversy and be the highlight of the week for headlines. I think many"straight" men would feel threatened by such a song.

They could pull off a song like that with a drag "king" singing it. Or any of the female pop stars convincingly turned into men, ala victor victoria, but absolutely undetectably real looking.

The female could play the role of the spouse being cheated on as well as the cheating spouse. They could do some trick camera work to have them appear to be in the same scene at the same time together.

The women would pounce at the opportunity to prove their acting skills  and versatility

I accept lesbians more than gay men.
Lesbians are more likely to go hiking, camping, whitewater rafting, etc, with me without bitching or needing special gay equipment (queen sized inflatable mattress, for example).

No, that's a true example.
I went camping with a guy who brought along a queen-sized inflatable mattress that was almost too big to fit in my 4person 7X7 tent.

If you're going to have sex all weekend in a tent you need some room to roll around in comfort...

So bringing an air matress camping is stereotypical? Did the guy bring his facial kit too?

I agree. And I bet it would be the same guys who found the lesbian version a turn on!

I guess more people find woman attractive so when two woman are together it's double the pleasure. I almost think it's just something against men. So many people view sexiness as being something onlywoman can offer. I think society has something against the natural beauty of a man. For some reason they don't think of men as beautiful.

Yes. My dad is like that. He doesn't understand why I would go with a man over a woman. However, sexyness and female prettyness are 2 different things. To me, that is like wondering why "straight" females bother sticking with men, when they could go with a woman instead.
