Just a note to those in training: Don't peel or bite the real thing. Not appreciated, except by a very strange sub group.

Talk about walking right up to the line but not crossing it! Sounds like something I would do.

"Practice makes permanent. Only perfect practice makes perfect."

(Any idea where I heard that quote from? I'd assume not, but you never know)

J: Thanks for posting this. I remember hearing it repeated often in management and self-improvement classes. I looked it up and the quote is attributed to Norton Juster, an early 20th century architect and writer of books for children. The actual quote is: Practice does not make perfect, practice makes permanent, only perfect practice makes perfect.

Hmmm... I guess I was wrong. Well the person I first heard it from (and who I thought made it up) was George N. Parks, the band director at UMass/Amherst (known as the "Minutemen"). He also does drum major academies across the country as well. I was a band geek and knew him, didn't know if anyone else did. He's fairly well known in those circles...

Aha! Now that you mention it, the first time I heard the expression was in band practice as well. Throughout junior and senior high, I was in the band (jazz, concert and marching.) I suppose all band teachers learn it in college, and have it in their back pocket to tell the students. Either way...it's a clever expression, isn't it?
