Congratulations on reaching the big 4-0, Michael!!

Know you've been 'dreading' this milestone, but it's a good milestone. Really. I won't say anything trite like '40 is the new 30' (oops, sorry, my bad... do as I say, not as I do!). It's been great to get to know you a bit through this board and from what I can tell you've got a lot to be proud to have achieved (and, yes, overcome) in those 40 years.

I'm sure your family will have a big celebration for you. Enjoy. And do something nice just for yourself, too.

Happy birthday Nimby. The 40s are great (I'm turning 46 in June). Time sure flies. You really are just beginning your life. :D

Awww. Thanks guys!!!

You know what? I was dredding this day. But when I woke up this morning I felt great. Got a little action in the hot tub last night  Breakfast was ready and waiting for me this morning. read my home made cards from my kids, I took an extra long shower, climbed on the scale and noticed I lost another 5 lbs., got dressed just a little bit nicer than normal, put on my new Calvin Klein cologne, and just put one foot in front of the next. Slipped Greenday into the stereo and drove too fast to work.

I'm fine. I don't know why I stressed so much. Some times I'm such an idiot !!!

But I want to share this. Yesterday it was really hot here, and since we don't have central air, we rely a lot on fans. My wife dug our big fan out of the garage and set it up, but couldn't get it going no matter what she tried. So of course my seven y/o daughter walked over to it and some how got it going. When asked how she did that, she replied, "I can do magic. Just like Dadddy."

That hit home. I make magic. That's my job. And thats when I realised some things are so much more important than a stupid birthday.

We all make magic to someone, somewhere, whether we know it or not. So don't sweat the small stuff. Usually it doesn't really matter.

Oh and by the way, when I dropped them off at school this morning, they both called out, "Happy Birthday! Old Man" and ran into the yard. I'll spank them when I get home.

Holy crap! I just got a call from my estranged sister. She hates me. She called to say happy b- day and get ready for the middle age spread. It's all down hill from here she says, so suffer with it like everybody else.

I wish she could meet all you guys.

Happy Birthday! BTW your sister is incorrect. Being 40 is great. It really empowered me to kick people to the curb who were not treating me the way they should have been. 3 years later I have no regrets over it either.

Yup. That why she is estranged from us. If anyone is a true monster, it is her. And I can't deal with her any more so she was kicked to the curb years ago.

Thank you, thank you, thank you.

But you know what? I do feel a little different. Before, I still felt like a kid. An older kid. But now I feel like a young man. Crazy, eh? but it's all ok and I feel good.

I know how you feel. I use to feel like a confused teenager before I turned 40.

Now I feel like a less confused 20 year old.

Last month I reached the big 71!! And some guys are upset about reaching 40?!?!?

When I was 67, I learned to ride a motorcycle and, 2 summers ago, took a 3600 mile trip on my Honda VFR 800 Interceptor. I just moved into a new house which I had custom built. It does, however, allow for problems that I might experience when I become olde, which is why it provides for the future addition of an elevator and has wide doors to accomodate mobility aids.

Anyway, don't worry about reaching 40; if you take care of yourself properly, you will probably have many years of vigorous living ahead of you..
