I ship off to Basic Training on Saturday. I'm really excited to go. I've been waiting and signing paperwork or almost 4 months now. My contract is 4 years.

So I guess I'll see you all later.

Its so weird to see how other nations let go of the reigns of their soldiers so early in their training.

Well, On the fifth the first half of my trades course starts. I'm studying to be an ammo tech. I look forward to it. It's a really long course the first half is 6 months then the OJT half of the course is 12-18 months, but it will be well worth it. It's a good opportunity.

Keep us updated when you can. Sounds like I'll be making 1 or 2 ventures to the eastern provinces this year, after I get back to the states.

Well, I've been put on another course in June...It sucks but I'll just waut and get my drivers qualifications in the mean time. :)

The only unfortunate thing is that given how long my trades course is, I am now virtually certain that I won't be able to go to Afghanistan. Oh well, I'll just wait and as they say, "Troops, Shi% happens! Deal with it!!"

What are Canadian military drivers quals like?
US military you're supposed to do a drive test and so much drive time before that vehicle qualification can be added..
but I know who can add qualifications to my license so I just tell her "oh yeah, its just like this vehicle" or "yeah, back in the states I drove X, which is similar to Y, over the coastal range" and she adds my qualifications.

It's a 4 day course. Where I sit in class then take a basic driving test. The first one qualifies me to operate "civilian" vehicles that happen to belong to the military, like a 4 by 4 or something or the recruiting van...lol But to get my milcot or forklift qualifications takes more courses.
