Trek Across America

Postby olywaguy » Sun Jul 26, 2015 12:06 am

If you read my previous post about writing my job, you know that I will be returning to Mississippi.

One thing I want to do is to take the long scenic way home.

My trek would take me through the northern states and Canada, then along the east coast, then Atlanta before making it home to Tupelo.

The tentative plan is thusly:

--go to Glacier National Park (if the fires are done with by then)
--go through Helena to get to Yellowstone National Park
--then head out to Mount Rushmore
--go to Minneapolis
--visit a friend in Petoskey, NO
--go to Chicago
--then head to Toronto (hopefully get the opportunity to visit you Michael)
--head to Montreal (hopefully in time for Pride)
--travel to Quebec
--go to Fredericton
--go to Halifax
--head to the other Portland in Maine
--visit Vermont and New Hampshire
--go to Boston, NYC, and Philadelphia
--go to DC, then Virginia and maybe the South Carolina coast before heading to Atlanta where I hope to meet some cousins before my last leg to Tupelo.

Would be great to get the opportunity to meet some of you along the way. Also, if you allow me the opportunity to couch surf, I would be very grateful.

If you have any travel suggestions, I would appreciate any you may have.

Gee that sounds like fun. I loved Glacier park. I saw Yellowstone way back in 1978 with my dad. It was early June but it was still kinda cold there I remember. You should try to get a selfie with a buffalo. tee hee

Ottawa is right next to Montreal and definitely worth a look. There's actually more to do there museum wise than Toronto. I think Toronto is a big concrete bore, but maybe that's just me.

I saw New York last year for the first time. Boy tons of things to do there. Course if you want to have fun there, it's a tad expensive. Montreal and Niagara Falls are also well worth seeing.

Chicago, Boston and Washington are still on my to do list.

I left my job at the end of July. Had to wait until September 11 to finally begin my trek across America. I went to Glacier National Park. Drove through Montana until I got to Williston, ND. Then drove through North Dakota until I got to Bemidji, MN. From there, I went to Petoskey, MI. to visit a good friend. We both also went to Traverse City...Had a great time day. Then I went to visit another friend in Kalamazoo and stayed a couple of days there.

For the past three nights, I've been in Chicago. I'm headed to Livonia,MI to visit some friend for a couple of days this morning.

I've been playing pictures on my Facebook page

I had him at my house for a few days, so I know he is still alive.

I've been back home to Tupelo now for a little over a month now. Great being home. Yes, I did spend some time with Nimby and his family. What a sweet family!

I'm still looking for a job. Have an interview on Monday with Aflac. Not many library jobs around here. So, I might get into the insurance business. I posted my resume at CareerBuilders.com adv got asked to be interviewed by two insurance companies...who knew libraries and insurance were related.

That's an interesting connection I wouldn't have made either. Perhaps they need good researchers?
