$5.00 / gallon ?

Postby Guinness Fan » Fri Feb 25, 2011 11:00 pm

I'm sure we've all been watching the melt-down in the Middle East and the doom & gloom dire predictions of $5.00/gallon gas here in the US (to our European brethern, don't laugh ~ we know you've been paying MUCH higher prices/litre for YEARS). I filled up this evening (Feb 25th) in DC (Northern VA ~ very few gas stations in DC proper)... paid $3.31/gallon...

Two questions;
(a) What are you paying for a gallon of regular today (& where)?
and
(b) If gas does reach the much-dreaded $5.00/gallon, will you significantly change your driving/commuting habits or just suck-it-up & pay?

$1.20/letre here. I won't change my habbits too much more, except park the van and drive one of the Hyundais a little more.

Ooops. Forgot part 'B'.

My truck only carries me to work and back, and that only to keep it alive. The Camry goes everywhere else at a much more efficient rate of fuel consumption. I don't know that I'd make much of a change either.

A: $2.89/gal: Dallas/Plano

B: Chris' vehicle is a Prius at 47+MPG. I drive a 2008 Canyon pickup at 17 MPG. Short trips (errand etc. are mine in the truck); commuting and longer drives we go Prius. As public transportation is virtually non-existent here, we'll drive, but plan the trips to be most efficient.

$3.399 / gallon this morning, 2/27/11, at the nearby Exxon. My grocery store offers FuelPerks based on purchases, but I used those up last week, and saved about $2.00 per gallon ($26 total savings) on a fill-up.

My driving habits won't change much. Half-hour commute (each way) to work M-F, and a few local errands on the weekend. I'm pretty much a homebody, so my vehicle is parked more often than not.

A) $3.89/gal for regular

B) Prolly suck it up and pay. I don't drive a whole lot, anyway... just work-home, restaurants-home, groceries-home. My partner does all the rest. lol

$3.69 at Costco.

Gasoline at $5 bucks a gallon likely won't change my driving habits much since I drive little anyway. Bought my current vehicle a bit over four years ago and it now has 11,500 miles on it, so I average less than 3K miles per year. What it will do is cost me more to take the bus to and from work each day (eventually) and will likely end up causing my employer to rethink where and when I fly for meetings and projects. And cause me to seriously consider if and when i fly places for vactions, to visit family, etc.

Unless my math fails me, 1.19/L would be $4.50/Gallon...

Your math is excellent, but you are missing one more conversion.

1.0 gal = 3.78 li (you got that one)
$1.0 CAD = $1.026 USD (forgot this one)

($1.19 CAD / li) X (3.78 li / gal) X ($1.026 USD / $1.0 CAD) = $4.62 USD/gal

My prediction - the price of gas will go MUCH higher.

I'm paying $3.77 a gallon here in Everett, WA.

Since I bought a hybrid about four years ago the only way I get to recoup some of the upcharge for buying a hybrid is to keep buying gas, especially when it gets really high.

Thunderbird is going to be using gas that costs 12 dollars a gallon soon.

Might as well,... Ultra 94 at Sunoco here was 1.40 something a liter..

WTF.

$3.67 for regular in Anacortes, WA. But with the grocery store "loyalty" card (read: self-imposed tracking device) discount, you get 3 cents off per gallon. Big whoop.

It was $3.79 in my town yesterday. I feel bad for my friend since he has a truck. He put $30 in and it barely got him past a quarter of a tank. He wants to get rid of the gas guzzler but his parents won't let him.
