Presidential Elections 2016

Postby olywaguy » Sat May 30, 2015 4:05 pm

Now that there are a number of candidates announcing, who do you like as President in 2016 and why?

I just looked at O'Malley's website and I like what he's saying so far. Besides he looks great shirtless. :P

I'm usually of the opinion that it's waaaaay too early to tell how it's all going to go. I'm interested in Bernie Sanders, if only to watch him move the Democratic platform a little to the left. I'm not saying Hillary isn't a respectable candidate, but I'm certainly glad to see that not quite everyone in the party sees her nomination as a fait accompli. At least, not yet.

Clinton v. Bush again? 1992? Does that mean Ross Perot is running again too?

Actually 92 was a fun year for me. Did lots of travelling.

I guess I would prefer Hillary over Bush, but she's so old! Doesn't she want to relax a little at that age? I don't get it. :?

What do you think of the presence of Trump, Carson, and Fiorina in the race?

I find two of them frightening and I don't know much about the third.

Believe it or not, Ontario just legalized medicinal marijuana. Now it can be smoked anywhere, even in restaurants.

That's going to be potentially problematic for those who are subject to random drug-screening... do you guys still have smoking sections in restaurants up there? Last time I was in your great nation was, alas, 2008--and I have vague recollections of being shocked to get asked, "smoking or non?"

I was in the US a couple weeks ago for the Holidays and was bombarded with TV ads and robocalls...

It's difficult enough being an American living overseas ~ having to explain the American presidential election process (try explaining the Electoral College to non-native English speakers) and the hype surrounding sound-bites that make international news (especially Trump's comments) to my Muslim bartenders...

Regardless of the "natural born" requirement, I'd vote for a ticket containing the Mexican President Enrique Pena Nieto (DEFINITELY worth a Google search if you've not seen him) and the Canadian PM Justin Trudeau. I could care less about their politics....

Well it looks like Trump vs. Clinton

Hillary was totally useless on gay marriage

Trump would be a disaster....he's no politician

I would vote none of the above

Primary is almost at an end.

Should Bernie continue fighting till the end or should he gives up now?

I know he wants to stay in it until the end, but I have to ask what further purpose is being served.

I've tried to refrain from watching the political gamesmanship from afar - as an American living here in the Balkans, I'm often asked to (a) explain the American political system, (b) explain statements made by presidential wannabes and (c) who I'm going to vote for. Most of those conversations take place in the pub. I learned long ago never to mix politics with booze - the result is always ugly. My defense mechanism is to turn the conversation to European football or the latest news splash, the Brexit. It's worked so far with the UEFA 2016 finals going on & the Pound Sterling meltdown...Tonight I was asked who I was going to vote for - thankfully the Wales vs Portugal match was about to start, so I dodged that bullet.

I feel sorry for Trump, in a way. I don't think he expected to win and now everyone is seeing what a flawed and unlikeable person he really is. Well not everyone. I guess some people just don't understand what a douchebag he really is.

Hillary has a 10 point lead right now. She better not blow it!

I'm not sure how she could. Someone made the observation that a video of HRC kicking puppies would have to surface for her to lose. Still, I've seen stranger things happen...

Michael Moore says Trump didn't even want to be president....it was all a scam to hype up his t.v. show. He thought calling Mexicans rapists would tank his campaign, and ensure he wouldn't win. Instead, people loved hearing a politician say something controversial for once, his campaign took off, and NBC fired him! Oops!

The first lady is going to be a Slovenian! Oh no!

The Democrats obviously need to get rid of the electoral college system. California gets 50 votes but Wyoming gets 3? That means 1 million Californians equal about 50,000 Wyoming people. Ridiculous.

Well let's sit back and see what a loose cannon pussy grabber who doesn't pay his taxes can do. Yuck.
